Preparing for the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon? You’re probably already doing well in your training so in this article we are going to steer you away from crucial pre-race mistakes to help you enjoy and perform in the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon. 

1. Don’t Try Any New Food 

Stick to food you are already familiar with or else you might feel unwell during the race. This goes for you breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks. Months before the race, you should already have a clear idea of what foods work best for your body during training so there are no unpleasant surprises on race day. 

2. Wear Your Legs Out 

Although a shakeout run has been shown to improve race day performance, aside from this small pre-race jog, you want to avoid doing any other intense physical activity. The day before the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon, feel free to put your legs up and keep them there all day long. If you do end up filling the day before your race with vigorous activity, you run the risk of toeing the start line with tired, worn-out, or even get delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). 

3. Wearing New Trainers 

Deciding to set out a shiny new pair of trainers on race day is an indefensible crime punishable by either very sore feet or a more serious injury. The shoes you wear during the day of the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon should be something that you’ve worn a lot of times before to test its limits. 

4. Drinking Too Much Before The Race 

Dehydration can wreck your race, but so can having to run for the toilet at mile two with a sloshing stomach and full bladder. Drinking too much water without also taking in electrolytes can put endurance runners at risk for hyponatremia, a sodium imbalance in the body that, in extreme cases, can be dangerous. Use the color of your urine as a guide: it should be light yellow, but not totally clear. 

5. Leaving Everything until Race Day Morning 

On the day of the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon, you don’t want to waste a single moment worrying about what to wear or how to get there. Plan your race day strategy in advance and you’ll be considerably more relaxed in the run-up to race day. Write a definitive list of what you need several days in advance and layout your knit the night before so you can get dresses without thinking. All you want to worry about on the day is your feet versus the road.
