Get ready for your first 10km run at the Mai Dubai Community Run by following this easy-to-follow training plan. A 10k distance is perfect for first time runners and seasoned runners alike. Running 10k isn’t an easy task by any means. That’s why we’ve gathered the best tips to help you run your best 10k race at the Mai Dubai Community Run.  

1. Build Mileage Slowly 

If you joined the previous Mai Dubai Community Run and you ran 5k then you’re ready to move up to a 10K but doubling up on distance still takes proper preparation. We recommend adding 10-15 per cent to your total weekly mileage and spread out over two to three runs each week. Any additional time on your feet – even if it’s walking – will push you to become stronger and help you prepare for the Mai Dubai Community Run.

2. Respect The Distance 

A lot of runners say it’s just 10k! Many experienced runners may dismiss the 10k as a short race but the truth is that running 10k at the Mai Dubai Community Run isn’t as easy as you think. There is a huge difference between racing a 10k and completing a 6-mile easy run. Respect the distance and prepare yourself mentally for being physically uncomfortable for a significant portion of the race during the Mai Dubai Community Run.

3. Do a Long Run Each Week To Build Stamina 

Your body adapts to endurance training in a combination of ways, including increased capillary density in your muscles, greater glycogen storage and an increase in the number and size of the mitochondria in your muscles. Therefore, whenever you do a long run each week, you’ll be able to build stamina and help you become ready for the Mai Dubai Community Run. 

4. Get Your Family Members and Friends To Support You 

It helps immensely when you have people along the course cheering for you at a running event in Dubai. Invite your family and friends at the Mai Dubai Community Run and ask to stay at strategic points along the course to help you push along. Knowing they’re at the Mai Dubai Community Run will give you something to look forward to. 

5. Recover To Train Harder 

If you’re a beginner, you might be tempted to train hard and not take any breaks. You might be tempted to skimp on recovery to get in another hard training session to prepare for the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon. We suggest that you take time to recover to be able to train harder but still avoid getting injuries during the day of the Mai Dubai Community Run. 

6. Train Your Mind 

Mentally training and preparing yourself for the Mai Dubai Community Run is just as important as physically training. Your mind runs the show. The number one mistake runners make on race day is to go out too fast and expend way too much energy in the first few miles, and crash and burn towards the end of the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon. Remember to mentally train yourself and know when and where to spend more energy and less energy.
